BT Engage IT gets flexible with Symantec

VAR takes advantage of Symantec's pay-as-you go service for its customers

Martin Balaam: The arrangement is appealing for a variety of reasons

BT Engage IT has teamed up with Symantec to offer its customer base desktop security on a pay-as-you-go basis.

The offering is aimed at small and medium-sized organisations and takes advantage of Symantec's recently launched ExSP licensing programme which allows its channel partners to offer pay-as-you-go managed services to customers.

Martin Balaam, managing director of BT Engage IT, said: "The arrangement will be appealing to our customers for a variety of reasons. First, it negates the need for customers to pay an upfront, lump sum for an annual contract.

"However, equally as important is the fact that customers can scale the number of licences they need up or down on a monthly basis. This offers customers desktop security on a flexible basis."

BT Engage IT will offer customers a full suite of services from Symantec, including the Symantec Protection Suite Enterprise Edition which is shortly due to include managed backup and other cloud-based offerings. The solution will be Symantec branded with support and billing provided by BT Engage IT.

Jason Ellis, vice president of channel, small business and mid-market sales at Symantec EMEA, said: "In the current economic climate, small and medium organisations are finding budgets increasingly constrained. However, security risks continue to present challenges to the integrity of their data and systems.

"This arrangement provides customers of BT Engage IT with a new and innovative option for the provision of their desktop security and backup."
