EntaTech bags OEM exclusivity with Kaspersky

Anti-virus vendor cuts OEM distributor line-up from five to one

Jon Atherton: Kaspersky's OEM products need to be sold in the correct manner

Distributor EntaTech has snagged exclusive rights to Kaspersky Lab’s OEM product line, which accounts for a fifth of the anti-virus vendor’s UK retail sales.

Kaspersky previously sold its OEM products through five distributors - EntaTech, Gem Distribution and Ingram Micro, Koch Media and Spire Technology - but has opted to cut the line-up to one.

EntaTech vice president of commercial Jon Atherton claimed that only EntaTech was able to offer Kaspersky the focus on system builders the OEM products require.

“We have been the largest of Kasperksy’s OEM distributors. Because it is cheaper than the retail product, it needs to be sold in the correct manner,” he added.

In a statement, Geoff Bradley, distribution account manager at Kaspersky, said: “It is because of its position that we’ve given EntaTech exclusive rights on reselling all of Kaspersky Lab’s OEM software.”

Kaspersky recently made the Sunday Times’ list of fast-growing tech firms after growing revenues from £29m to £210m over the last three years.

Atherton said: “Kaspersky is offering good margin potential and is the fastest-growing anti-virus vendor in the world and has its own engine.”
