Sony tempts VARs with VAT-back scheme

Vendor looks to maximise sales through the channel in the run up to Christmas

In the money: VARs can use the VAT back scheme to encourage sales

Sony is urging its partners to take advantage of its VAT-back campaign in Q4 to help boost sales.

The IT giant is keen to stay one step ahead of the impending VAT rise in January and help drive sales for its reseller and retailer partners.

A series of adverts have been running on national TV featuring Sir Derek Jacobi as Scrooge turning up at his nephew’s house with an armful of Sony goodies after being tempted by the VAT-back offer. Now the scheme, which is aimed at taking the strain off consumer wallets in the run up to Christmas, is being extended to Sony’s channel partners.

Adam Coomber, business-to-business marketing manager at Sony, said “The VAT-back promotion delivers significant savings for end users on Sony products at a time when value for money is of paramount importance. This is the first time that we have been able to offer our reseller channel access to a promotion of this scale and we believe that it will deliver them a lot of added value business this Christmas.”

The scheme includes Vaio laptops, netbooks and desktop PCs, Bravia televisions and Blu-ray products, full high-definition AVC Handycams, selected digital cameras, E-readers, and iPod docks.
