Atlanta Technology aids recovery at NHS Brent
VAR helps primary care trust make savings with new storage infrastructure
Storage VAR Atlanta Technology claims to have saved NHS Brent Primary Care Trust almost £40,000 in power and cooling costs by virtualising 90 per cent of its physical servers.
Atlanta was enlisted to overhaul NHS Brent's storage architecture and business continuity strategy, which it achieved by integrating technology from Compellent with its own disaster recovery services.
The project resulted in the decommissioning of 36 physical servers and assurances that, in the event of an IT disaster, the trust will be up and running again within 60 minutes.
Simon Kelson, managing director of Atlanta Technology, said: "The Compellent Fluid Data SAN provides a highly scalable enterprise storage environment, and the disaster recovery service has been scripted to replicate data across two sites and ensure data is easily recoverable."
Richard Weston, technical services manager at NHS Brent, said the project was already helping the Trust make savings.
"The great thing for me is that I can already start calculating a return on investment from the savings we have made by eliminating our physical servers," he said. "And this ROI does not even take into consideration the time and resource savings we are now making, which are also significant."
