Makara buyout gives Red Hat a platform for cloud success
Open-source specialist pounces on cloud application platform vendor
Open-source player Red Hat has beefed up its platform-as-a-service (PaaS) credentials with the acquisition of cloud application platform developer Makara.
California-based Makara builds technology that aims to make it easier for firms to deploy and manage applications in both public and private clouds. It will slot in to Red Hat's recently launched Cloud Foundations unit.
Unveiled in June, the Cloud Foundations offering is built around enterprise middleware from vendor JBoss, which Red Hat acquired four years ago. Makara's technology will be integrated into this to help build Red Hat's PaaS offering.
Paul Cormier, president of products and technologies at Red Hat, said: "Cloud Foundations is about enabling customers and developers to have an easy-on ramp to the cloud. With the addition of Makara, we aim to further simplify application deployment and management. We welcome the Makara team and look forward to accelerating our delivery of PaaS solutions to the market."
