2X aims to bust myth of virtual complexity
Desktop and application virtualisation specialist challenges big names as it aims to make technology simpler and cheaper
2X Software has issued a war cry to market giants Citrix, VMware and Microsoft as it aims to dissolve the myths around the complexity of desktop and application virtualisation technology.
The server-based computing vendor last month surveyed 100 resellers about their views on the desktop and application virtualisation market.
Some 95 per cent pinpointed "lack of understanding" as the main barrier to implementation.
End users' lack of skills and solution complexity were also flagged up by more than half of those asked as common headaches.
2X connects with VMware, Citrix and Microsoft's hypervisors, but its software competes with the powerful trio's broker technology.
UK managing director Paul RobĀinson (pictured) said 2X's aim is to make the technology less complex and more cost effective. "We are talking about 10-year-old technology and people still believe it is too complex.
"A UK housing association we worked with already had Citrix and it had taken Citrix and its reseller ten days to install, whereas it took us two."
Robinson also claimed that 2X is 16 times cheaper than Citrix based on the initial acquisition of licences
2X launched a UK office 12 months ago and in June appointed Getech as sole UK distributor. Robinson said the firm has trimmed its UK reseller community from 180 to 150.
He singled out education as a sweet spot but said 2X is also gaining traction as a replacement product for healthcare trusts that implemented Citrix before the spending cuts took hold.
Mark Matthews, director of 2X parĀtner Cloudsteps, said: "So many products provide 100 per cent functionality when only 20 to 30 per cent is required, so having a targeted, mid-level product like 2X is absolutely appropriate."
