Ingram ramps up comms drive with BlackBerry deal
Distributor looks to forge more accessories and software partnerships after bagging full rights to smartphone kit
Ingram Micro has won a UK and Ireland distribution contract for the complete range of BlackBerry devices, software and services and is looking to agree more comms partnerships in the coming weeks.
The broadliner has been tasked with growing the smartphone's standing in the enterprise and SMB markets. The newly signed partnership is also effective in seven mainland European countries: Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and the Benelux nations.
Ingram's EMEA president, Alain Maquet, said: "Today's announcement is a strong testament to Ingram Micro's commitment to drive growth in the telecommunications segment. With over 30 years of experience as the world leader in IT distribution, we are ideally positioned to build a unique value proposition to resellers and telco operators alike."
Earlier this year, the distributor set up a dedicated telecoms division. After a year away from the firm, long-time Ingram executive Pierre-Yvon Mechali returned in April as EMEA general manager, Telco Division.
The distributor indicated that it intends to keep growing its portfolio of devices as part of its comms push. Ingram also plans to increase its logistical prowess and develop tailored service packages for the channel.
Mechali said: "The value of supply aggregation is becoming more apparent as mobile PCs and smartphone capabilities converge. Our news today about offering the suite of BlackBerry products and services is just the first in a series.
"In the coming weeks we will announce several new accessories and software vendors as we further differentiate ourselves across Europe and establish our leadership in the telecom segment."
