HP lands £250m BP deal

Vendor's Enterprise Services arm clinches five-year management contract with oil giant

HP Enterprise Services UK has been awarded a five-year datacentre outsourcing deal worth more than £250m with oil giant BP.

The deal will see HP provide monitoring, disaster recovery and maintenance services to BP datacentres across Europe and America. It will also equip BP with the means needed to deploy private and public clouds.

HP's datacentre services will be provided onsite and via its India-based global support team.

Dana Deasy, group vice president of BP, claims bringing both the firms' European and American datacentres under HP's control will help cut costs.

He said: "By establishing a standardised global operating mode, BP will realise immediate cost reductions, improved consistency of service and be well positioned to utilise emerging technologies."

Mike Nefkens, senior vice president for EMEA at HP Enterprise Services, added: "A consistent datacentre environment enables companies like BP to navigate the many challenges [associated with] global operations in the oil and gas industry."
