Rival snaps up Uniwell Systems' assets

Geller Business Machines wins distribution rights in sell-off

The assets of defunct electronic point of sale (Epos) distributor Uniwell Systems have been acquired by rival Geller Business Machines UK.

Blackburn-based Uniwell, which specialised in the distribution of its Japanese parent's Epos hardware and peripherals, ceased trading last month citing "difficult trading conditions".

At the time, Uniwell Systems' managing director, Jonathan Hutchings, told ChannelWeb that maintaining product supply to its UK partners was a priority.

The deal gives Geller exclusive distribution rights for the company's products in the UK and Ireland, as well as authorisation to provide Uniwell customers with spare parts.

The firm has also secured a majority stake in Uniwell Software Development, a Uniwell Corporation subsidiary specialising in the provision of back-office Epos systems to the hospitality industry.

Peter Moore, chief executive of Geller, said the future of the Uniwell brand in the UK was now assured.

Moore said: "We are confident that the brand will become stronger and dealers will benefit from increased value and peace of mind."
