Midwich restarts UK acquisition engine

Distributor buys into physical security market with Ubiqz purchase

Distributor Midwich has leapt back into the UK acquisition game by grabbing physical security distributor Ubiqz.

The Diss-based printer and audiovisual specialist acquired a series of UK distributors between 2006 and 2008, including True Colours, Owl and Synergix, but Midwich's more recent conquests have all been overseas.

London-based Ubiqz offers analogue and IP security solutions, working with manufacturers including Bosch, Sanyo, Panasonic, JVC and Samsung. It will operate as Midwich's security wing.

Midwich, which saw turnover rise six per cent to £173.6m in its most recent annual accounts, confirmed that Ubiqz general manager Anand Subbiah (pictured) will continue to run the business.

Subbiah said: “As a specialist distributor, we will continue to focus on the security sector, but the acquisition will significantly improve customer service, product choice, stock availability and performance across all aspects of our business.”

David Hammond, European CCTV sales manager at Sanyo, said: “The Midwich Group has an excellent reputation as a market-leading distributor of technology products and I believe that the Group’s financial strength and logistics capabilities, together with Ubiqz’s specialist knowledge of IP/network-based surveillance solutions, should prove to be an attractive combination to system integrators who are looking to source Sanyo full HD cameras.”
