Amazon man McBride swings into Computacenter jungle

Online giant's UK top dog takes non-exec directorship at corporate reseller

VAR Computacenter has grabbed Amazon's UK head honcho to serve on its board.

Brian McBride joins the Hatfield-based reseller after spending five years as UK managing director of the online retailer. He began his career with a 12-year sales stint at IBM, followed by senior management roles at Crosfield Electronics, Madge Networks, Dell and T-Mobile.

As a non-executive director, he will serve Computacenter as chairman of the remuneration committee. The VAR's chairman, Greg Lock, claimed McBride brings valuable experience to the boardroom setup.

"We are delighted that Brian has agreed to join our board," said Lock. "He has relevant experience aplenty and, having known him for 30 years, I commend his independence of spirit and thought to all our shareholders."
