Vendor hails iPad for switching end users on to tablet PCs

Motion Computing plans to capitalise on the tablet PC boom with the launch of its first light, small-form factor device aimed at business users later this year.

Buoyed by the growing demand for tablet PCs in the workplace, the Motion CL900, which will feature the upcoming Intel Atom Oak Trail processor, will be sold via the firm's partners and be aimed at users in the healthcare, retail and construction sectors.

Andy Toal, business development manager for Northern Europe at Motion Computing, said it would give business users an alternative to the consumer-focused Apple iPad.

"The iPad has really helped convince people of the benefits of pen and handheld computers, and to want to use them in the workplace," he said

"However, integrating an Apple device into a business that uses Windows 7 can be very difficult."

Toal said the product's £825 price tag could open up opportunities for partners in the SMB market, as well as broaden the appeal of tablet PCs to their existing customers.

"We want to help partners broaden the relationships they already have by giving them devices that cater for every part of their customer's workforce," explained Toal.
