Redstone wins healthy contract

Integrator is jointly appointed with Insight to a County Durham and Darlington NHS contract

Redstone has snaffled a contract to update the IT infrastructure across the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

The integrator, which has undergone severe restructuring recently, has been jointly appointed with fellow player Insight Direct (UK) which will front the contract as Prime contractor, with Redstone as the sole subcontractor.

Over the next 18 months Redstone’s role will be to update the infrastructure and provide ongoing support for a further five years.

The first stage of the contract is to upgrade the LAN at three main hospitals across the county – Durham, Darlington and Bishop Auckland Hospitals – using Cisco Core and Edge hardware.

This stage is expected to be completed by the summer. Redstone will then commence an upgrade programme at six smaller hospital and community sites across the county, using a mix of new hardware and redeployed hardware from the main hospitals.

Tony Weaver, chief executive of Redstone, said: “Today’s win follows a competitive tendering process during which we provided a convincing case of our ability to ally closely with Insight Direct and NHS Foundation Trust.

“This is a great project for us and an opportunity for us to better equip the county with leading-edge systems and technology in preparation for the demands ahead.”
