Security integrator MIS CDS is aiming to complete an acquisition within six months after rebranding as SecureData.

MIS was acquired by South African IT group SecureData Holdings in 2008 and has adopted its parent company's name to reflect its global prowess.

Director Etienne Greeff said the rebranding had been welcomed by vendors and key customers, who were informed earlier this week.

"The general reaction has been: ‘At least your name now says what you do'," he said.

"We have started to do more global business and often deal with our sister company in Africa. Having a global brand makes it easier to deal with CIOs and reinforces the fact we are not just a UK-only company."

Greeff said the Juniper, Websense and Check Point partner is in dialogue with several acquisition targets with a view to completing a deal by July.

"We are also looking to consolidate our position in cloud-based security," he added.

Nick Lowe, head of Western Europe at Check Point, said: "SecureData has a very well-established brand that is synonymous with Check Point in South Africa. This is probably partly about them trying to strengthen their group values."

David Hobson, managing director of GSS, added: "It makes sense for the guys at MIS to have a brand that is global. This is a good, positive message for them if it is managed properly."
