Hosting provider lifts lid on new datacentre facility
Hosting provider Peer 1 is in the process of building a 50,000sq ft datacentre, which it claims will open up enterprise opportunities.
The Portsmouth-based facility is scheduled for completion in the summer, and it will be the first datacentre in the UK to offer both managed and dedicated hosting along with
co-location services, according to the hosting provider.
Dominic Monkhouse, managing director for EMEA at Peer 1, explained: "Demand for European datacentre space is expected to double by 2015, and we are one of the few hosting companies in the UK to own a datacentre."
Monkhouse also predicted that the company's co-location capabilities will help it make inroads into the enterprise market.
"Co-location tends to attract enterprise-profile companies. For example, when we built our first datacentre in Toronto, we were able to sign up large enterprise clients, such as IBM and Capgemini, through offering co-location services," he said.
