Bechtle lands long-term net zero target validation
The SBTi has confirmed the VAR’s long-term objectives, following the approval of its near- and medium-term goals
Bechtle’s net-zero goals have been given the thumbs up by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), committing to a 90 per cent reduction across Scope 1 and 2 by 2050.
For Scope 3.1 (emissions from the purchased goods and services) and Scope 3.11 (emissions from the use of sold products) the German VAR aims to cut emissions by 97 per cent per €1,000 (£869.5) of value creation.
Bechtle will neutralise any remaining emissions through what it referred to as “credible carbon removal measures”.
This follows the recent SBTi validation of the firm’s near- and mid-term climate targets.
By 2030, the company aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 54.4 per cent and cut Scope 3.1 and Scope 3.11 emissions by 55 per cent per €1,000 of value creation.
All targets are using 2019 as the starting point.
“This second validation shows that we’re not just setting ambitious targets, but also aligning them consistently with recognised scientific standards,” said Antje Leminsky, COO of Bechtle.
“It sends a clear signal of our commitment to sustainable business practices across the entire value chain.”
Dr Nicole Diehlmann, chief sustainability manager at Bechtle, recently told CRN that a key focus to reducing Scope 1 emissions was to gradually extend the company car fleet with all-electric vehicles by 2030.
While the business has reportedly been strategically engaged with sustainability since 2011, concrete reduction targets were first defined in its climate protection strategy, published in 2022.
The organisation is also involved in the circular economy with its dedicated department within Bechtle Logistik & Service, Bechtle Circular IT.
The SBTi is a joint venture by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), UN Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
The initiative intends to support organisations in completing emission reduction targets according to the latest climate science.
Bechtle’s UK arm ranks number 35 in CRN’s Top VARs list.
