‘Automation to handle the mundane, experts to handle the complex’ - CybaVerse CEO talks SecureAck acquisition
CybaVerse snaps up SecureAck to boost AI platform and simplify cyber security for growing businesses.
Cybersecurity partner CybaVerse has acquired automation platform SecureAck.
The buyout marks a significant step in its mission to empower MSPs to become full-fledged MSSPs.
CybaVerse CEO Oliver Spence sat down with CRN to discuss the details of the acquisition, a key figure in the company, shared candid insights into how this deal came about and the strategic vision driving the integration.
“We’ve been collaborating with SecureAck about two years now,” Spence tells CRN.
“Our chairman, Andreas Wuchner, has been advising SecureAck for about two years and chairing us for roughly a year as we built out our SecOps platform and launched last year.”
The relationship wasn’t born overnight but developed organically, Spence explains.
He highlights a crucial gap the acquisition addresses: “We tried several market solutions, but nothing quite fit.
“SecureAck was a godsend — vendor agnostic, easy to connect, sort of like a Zapier but for cybersecurity.
“They plugged a real gap for us, enabling workflow automations that our SecOps team relies on heavily.”
This is not just a product synergy but a fusion of top-tier talent. “[SecureAck CTO] Simon [Phillips] and his team are world-class engineers, with deep cybersecurity roots — Simon’s background is in pentesting.
“Their platform fills out our offering, allowing us to deliver more comprehensive solutions to customers.”
Looking forward, Spence paints a busy but exciting picture for the next year: “Our mantra is to automate 80 per cent and be experts at the 20 per cent.
“That’s how we want to support MSPs and SMEs — automation to handle the mundane, experts to handle the complex.”
Central to this strategy is helping MSPs evolve: “We see a huge market gap.
Many MSPs want to grow their own security teams but lack the tools. We’re offering a hybrid approach — outsourced support initially, then gradually handing over the keys to the platform so MSPs can manage cybersecurity themselves. We’re turning MSPs into MSSPs.”
Pricing will reflect this flexibility. “We have competitive pricing now, but post-acquisition we plan to lower costs significantly — especially for MSPs moving through the hybrid model or fully self-managing. There’s also a white-label platform that MSPs can use for a seamless customer experience, so end-users won’t even notice the transition.”
Adding three new team members to the existing 35-person staff, and the cultural fit around the two companies’ missions is clear: “Simon shares my passion for bringing enterprise-grade security to the SME and MSP market.
“There are plenty of powerful, complex solutions out there for large enterprises, but MSPs remain massively underserved.
“Our goal is to deliver that same high-grade protection in a way that’s simplified, user-friendly, and easy to understand — especially when it comes to deployment and reporting. Simon’s vision, values, and drive are completely aligned with ours.”
The acquisition was an equity deal, Spence explains.
He is cautiously optimistic about the upcoming Series A funding round: “We’ve attracted interest from VCs across the UK, US, and Europe, and expect to close in the next couple of months.”
“There’s no partner currently guiding MSPs through this entire cybersecurity journey with a consistent technology stack. We want to fill that gap and support MSPs every step of the way,” he concludes.
