North Yorkshire-based MSP Phoenix Software has promoted company vet Craig Taylor to CTO, replacing Darren Goldsborough who is set to retire after 25 years.

Taylor joined Phoenix as cloud solutions manager in 2015 and evolved to director of cloud solutions five years later.

He entered the tech world in 2008 when he was hired as business development executive by Charteris, now part of tech consulting firm Sword Group.

He stayed there for five years before co-founding Cojengo, a mobile app and cloud company who developed software for the East African animal health market, before onboarding with Phoenix in 2015.

Taylor’s strategic priorities will be to drive AI innovation, boost cybersecurity resilience, and accelerate the firm’s digital transformation.

“AI is undoubtedly the most transformative opportunity for service innovation and cost-efficiency in a generation, but it’s easy to forget it’s not the only challenge that our customers face today,” said Taylor.

"We’re here to guide [customers] through this change - from strategy to execution - but increasingly with AI in mind.

“At the same time, with cyberattacks rising and resources stretched, we are continually investing in our security services to help organisations stay resilient.”

Claire Metcalfe, MD of Phoenix, added: “We are delighted to welcome [Taylor] as our new CTO.

“[He] brings a wealth of experience and a bold vision for how Phoenix can continue to lead in the delivery of technological innovation for our customers, particularly around AI, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.

“His appointment marks an exciting new chapter for our business and our customers.”

This leadership change happens just a few months after Metcalfe told CRN that Phoenix was turning its attention new growth areas, such as defence and mid-market corporate clients.

The business is part of Bytes Technology Group, a company which ranks number three on CRN’s Top VARs list.
