Westcon-Comstor’s FY25 Responsible Business report - the breakdown
The SBTi validated distie has ticked some carbon reduction goals of its list, and is progressing well in other areas
Westcon-Comstor continues to make strides in its sustainable goals, according to its latest Responsible Business report.
The 58-page document covers the distributor’s action and progress on three strategic focus areas of people, planet and communities in its FY25 financial year (March 1 2024 – February 28 2025).
“Our latest Responsible Business report shows that we’re making real progress in cutting Scope 1 and 2 emissions and expanding our use of renewables,” said Kevin Brzezinski, chief sustainability officer at Westcon-Comstor.
“Challenges remain, but we’re committed to leading by example and reducing our carbon footprint across operations and supply chains as we collaborate with partners and vendors to drive sustainability across the IT channel.”
Westcon’s report states its four climate change targets are:
- To reach net-zero GHG emissions across Scope 1, 2 and 3 by 2050.
- A 50 per cent reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030
- A 25 per cent reduction in absolute Scope 3 emissions by 2030
- 80 per cent of its suppliers having science-based emissions reduction targets by 2025
CRN breaks down which goals the £1.45bn-revenue distributor has achieved so far, and how its progression stacks up against last year with which green ambitions remain.
Ticked off the list
Westcon’s target of having 80 per cent of suppliers by spend covering purchased goods and services to have science-based targets by FY25 has reportedly been met, reaching 81 per cent to boot.
The distie has also made progress around external frameworks and standards.
It has incorporated The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact within its Business Code of Conduct.
While parent company, Datatec, is also a member, Westcon actively contributes to the annual Communication on Progress.
The distributor’s 2050 net-zero ambition and other sustainability targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2023, making it the first major global technology distributor to earn this recognition.
Still in progress
Westcon’s latest annual Responsible Business report reveals that it now sources 50 per cent of electricity globally from renewables, up from 42 per cent last year.
This eight per cent year-on-year rise marks promising progress towards its goal of 100 per cent by 2030.
Meanwhile, it has already transitioned fully to renewable energy in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Scope 1 and 2 emissions, which Westcon-Comstor owns or controls either directly or indirectly, fell by eight per cent and 29 per cent respectively year-on-year.
The distie has made total reductions of 24 per cent since FY22, meaning the company is nearly halfway to its 2030 target of a 50 per cent reduction.
Westcon-Comstor said that looking ahead, it intends to work with vendors and partners across the IT channel, designing and delivering initiatives to reduce its Scope 3 emissions.
