Cloud Market Share Q3: Google Cloud gains as AWS loses ground while Anthropic and SpaceX rise into top 10

CRN breaks down the global cloud services market share winners and numbers for Q3 2026 including AWS, Microsoft, Google Cloud, Oracle, Anthropic and SpaceX

Google Cloud gained significant global cloud market share in Q3 2026 by increasing three percentage points year over year, while Amazon Web Services’ worldwide share dropped three percentage points.

“Amazon maintains a strong lead in the market, while Microsoft and Google continue to achieve substantially higher growth rates,” said John Dinsdale, chief analyst at Synergy Research Group, in an email to CRN.

Interestingly, both Anthropic and SpaceX cracked into Synergy’s top 10 global cloud infrastructure services companies for the first time ever.

CRN breaks down the top global cloud market share leaders for the third quarter of 2026, according to new data from Synergy Research Group, as Google Cloud, Microsoft and AWS continue to battle for cloud supremacy in the AI era.

$168bn Cloud Market In Q3 2026; New Entrants

Worldwide enterprise spending on cloud infrastructure services reached $168 bn in the third quarter of 2026.

Q3 spending on cloud services jumped by an “unprecedented” 55 per cent year over year to reach $16bn, Dinsdale explained.

“The records just keep on tumbling. After 12 successive quarters of increasing growth rates, the cloud market leapt to $168bn in the third quarter—that is a 55 per cent increase from last year. Despite its already huge size, it has taken just eight quarters for the cloud market to double in size,” said Dinsdale.

The growth is helping fuel leaders like Google, AWS and Microsoft as well as other smaller cloud companies.

“It’s also benefitting a group of neoclouds and other relatively recent market entrants who are experiencing explosive growth, albeit from a much lower baseline,” Dinsdale said, referring to the likes of Anthropic, CoreWeave and SpaceX.

Here are the top global cloud market share companies during the $168bn third quarter.

No. 5: Alibaba Cloud

Q3 2026 Market Share: 4 per cent

Q3 2025 Market Share: 4 per cent

Alibaba Cloud ranked No. 5 in terms of enterprise cloud infrastructure services, winning 4 per cent global market share.

The Chinese tech giant’s global cloud market share has hovered at around 4 per cent for the past several years.

Last week, Alibaba reported external quarterly cloud revenue increased 45 per cent year over year to $7.1bn.

No. 4: Oracle

Q3 2026 Market Share: 4 per cent

No. 3: Google Cloud

Q3 2026 Market Share: 16 per cent

Q3 2025 Market Share: 13 per cent

The biggest winner of the third quarter was Google Cloud, which won a record 16 per cent share of the global enterprise cloud infrastructure services.

This represented a three percent market share increase compared to winning 13 percent share one year ago in Q3 2025.

The Mountain View, Calif.-based cloud and AI giant generated $30.7bn in revenue, an increase of a whopping 103 percent year over year, compared with $15.2bn in Q3 2025.

Q3 2025 Market Share: 20 per cent

The world’s largest software company won 19 per cent share of the global cloud services market during Q3 2026. Microsoft has consistently placed second in terms of worldwide cloud market share for years.

The Redmond, Wash.-based company’s 19 per cent global market share in Q3 is down 1-point compared to winning 20 per cent share in Q3 2025.

For Q3 2026, Microsoft Azure generated $33.2bn in revenue, up 48 per cent compared with $22.4bn year over year.

Microsoft’s Azure business now has a $133bn annual run rate.

Amazon Web Services has been the worldwide cloud market share leader for well over a decade.

The Seattle-based cloud giant won the gold medal again this quarter by winning 26 per cent share in Q3 2026.

However, it is key to note that AWS lost three percentage points global share during the quarter compared to the 29 per cent share it achieved one year ago in Q3 2025.

For Q3 2026, AWS reported $46bn in total sales, up 39 per cent year over year compared to $33bn.

Amazon’s cloud company now has a $184bn annual run rate.

Q3 2026 Market Share Figures For Other Cloud Leaders

SpaceX/xAI: 3 per cent

Anthropic: 2 per cent

CoreWeave: 2 per cent

Salesforce: 2 per cent

With SpaceX’s acquisition of xAI earlier this year, the company now ranks No. 6 in global cloud infrastructure services market share. This is the first time CEO Elon Musk’s company has made Synergy's list.

Another new entrant is AI superstar Anthropic, which achieved 2 per cent share of the global market.

“The top 20 cloud providers now includes CoreWeave, SpaceX/xAI, Anthropic, OpenAI, Snowflake, and Databricks, with Nebius also not too far off,” Dinsdale told CRN.

“Many of the newcomers will find profitability a huge challenge over the coming years, and there will be consolidation. But in the meanwhile, they are causing market disruptions and bringing more investment into the infrastructure market,” he said.

The other cloud companies that have a market share of around 1 per cent include Akamai, Baidu, China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, Databricks, Huawei, IBM, OpenAI, Snowflake, Tencent, and SAP.
