Irish IT solutions provider Ergo has appointed Conal O’Donnell as CEO as the company intends to double down on scaling operations and driving customer value.

He succeeds Paul McCann, who will step down at the end of the month after leading the business for the past five years.

The IT vet first joined Ergo as COO in 2019 from remote video monitoring organisation Netwatch where he assumed the role of CFO.

Prior to that, he earned his spurs at Jamaica-HQ connectivity and communications provider Digicel Group where he worked for over 12 years.

“I am delighted to take on the role of CEO at such an important time for Ergo,” said O’Donnell.

“Having been part of the business for over six years, I have seen first-hand the depth of our expertise, the strength of our culture and the exceptional talent across our teams.

“I would also like to sincerely thank McCann for his leadership and the significant contribution he has made to Ergo’s growth and success, particularly in leading the company through its acquisition by Presidio.”

The leadership transition comes a few months after the business was acquired by US-based technology services and solutions provider Presidio to boost the latter’s footprint in the Irish market and improve service for local and public sector clients.

The buyout, which completed last month, was estimated to be worth €100m (£87.7m) or more by The Currency, although financial terms were not disclosed.

McCann said at the time of the investment that being a part of Presidio would give the firm the scale and resources to accelerate its growth.

This marks Ergo’s third senior leadership change in the past 12 months.

In August, the organisation Sean McAvinue to head of AI, while in April it hired Louise Keague as senior public sector account director.

The announcement also comes shortly after the passing of the company’s founder John Purdy, as reported by The Irish Independent.
