PNZ Advisory launches carbon and ESG support website exclusively for the IT channel
As customer demands and expectations around sustainability increase, the carbon accounting specialist has a tailored strategy to help confused channel companies
For many channel firms sustainability and net zero may seem a minefield of confusion, but PNZ Advisory is hoping to ease their ESG burden with its dedicated website.
Aimed at providing practical support that helps all channel businesses - including resellers, vendors and distributors - with carbon assessment, net zero planning and strategy, and compliance requirements, the aim is to take the pain out of ESG planning and ease the transition to a more sustainable strategy.
With a proven track record in helping established channel firms such as Boxxe, TD SYNNEX, Westcoast, Converge and CDW tread the right path, Steve Finnegan (pictured), managing director of PNZ, said the firm was well placed to help companies of all sizes see the sustainability wood for the trees.
“Sustainability is now a commercial necessity for IT firms, and it is a fact that businesses across the IT channel are facing growing pressure to demonstrate credible net-zero commitments, carbon data and ESG performance to remain competitive,” he explained. “Sustainability is no longer simply a compliance issue. Customers are demanding greater transparency, while larger supply chains increasingly expect suppliers to provide evidence of carbon management and environmental progress.
“Companies that act early by measuring emissions, setting realistic targets, and reporting progress clearly will be better placed to win contracts, strengthen customer trust and avoid the risks associated with poor-quality environmental data and greenwashing claims.”
Finnegan said the practice of ‘green rinsing’ had emerged last year which saw some companies set ambitious net zero targets to attract investors, and then watered down or dropped those targets later down the line, including Shell, BP, Unilever, Volve and Coca-Cola which all weakened or delayed their sustainability targets.
“We also saw the fossil fuel sector lean on carbon capture use and storage technologies to justify ongoing expansion, and position natural gas as ‘clean’ and ‘green’,” Finnegan added. “In Southeast Asia, the misuse of carbon credits was identified as the most common form of greenwashing, while the credibility of sustainability-linked loans in financing real environmental progress raise questions.
“We want to help channel businesses avoid all of this negative publicity and continue to win business.”
Jon Steggles, sustainability and social value manager at CDW, praised PNZ’s channel knowhow: "PNZ inspired confidence from our very first conversation,” he said.
“Their team of climate and emissions experts brings together deep technical expertise, diverse experience, and strong academic credentials, all grounded in practical application, particularly within the technology sector. The partnership exceeded our expectations, providing clear, actionable guidance, rigorous analysis, and valuable insights that enabled us to develop a credible, defensible, and achievable net zero reduction plan."
