Sopra Steria extends Red Hat partnership to scale sovereign AI capabilities
The collaboration will target defence, public services and critical infrastructure environments
Sopra Steria has expanded its strategic partnership with Red Hat to develop sovereign-ready AI capabilities for defence, public sector and critical infrastructure organisations.
The extended collaboration is designed to support highly regulated and connectivity-constrained environments.
The goal is to enable AI systems to continue functioning when access is limited while ensuring organisations retain control over their data and models.
For the France-based digital services and solutions provider, the offering represents its first industrialised edge AI platform built entirely on open standards.
The companies said the solution will allow organisations to train, deploy and manage AI models across hybrid cloud and edge environments through a single architecture.
The platform combines Red Hat OpenShift AI, Device Edge and Edge Manager to manage the full AI lifecycle, from model training and governance through to deployment and maintenance on field equipment operating under intermittent or degraded network conditions.
According to the firms, the approach is designed to support use cases including real-time anomaly detection and predictive routing in transport networks, diagnostics and data filtering on public service terminals and AI-enabled signal processing on low-power devices.
By building the platform on open standards, Sopra Steria said organisations will be able to avoid proprietary technology lock-in while adapting to changing operational and regulatory requirements.
“Most edge AI never leaves the lab,” said Gregory Wintrebert, director of institutional relations and strategic partnerships at Sopra Steria.
“The hard part was never the model. It was running it reliably on a constrained board, in the field, when the network drops, across thousands of devices.
“That is exactly what we industrialise with Red Hat.”
Penny Philpot, VP EMEA ecosystem at Red Hat, added: “Our collaborative blueprint with Sopra Steria demonstrates the true power of the Red Hat ecosystem.
“Together, we are delivering a repeatable, open architecture that provides regulated industries with flexibility, compliance and scales automated AI workflows from the data centre to resource-constrained devices at the furthest edge."
This comes as the sovereignty debate gains momentum across Europe amid growing concerns around data sovereignty and jurisdiction.
The announcement also follows Sopra Steria’s double acquisition of Starion and Nexova in December.
The M&A move intends to create a leading European provider of secure and sovereign digital services and solutions for the space and cybersecurity sectors.
The firm has also revamped its leadership team in recent months with the appointment of Rajesh Krishnamurthy as CEO in December and Craig Wilson as UK CEO last week.
