Veeam backs women to tackle AI skills gap with new EmpowHer VMCE+ Accelerator scheme
The programme will equip 50 participants with access to training, certification and career development opportunities
Veeam has launched the second edition of its EmpowHer VMCE+ Accelerator programme, aimed at increasing the representation of women in technical roles across the IT industry.
The 14-week initiative will reportedly provide 50 early to mid-career women with access to training, certification and career development opportunities centred around Veeam’s Certified Engineer Plus (VMCE+) certification.
VMCE+ is the vendor’s more advanced certification, focused on managing its broader data platform, not just backup and recovery.
The track focuses on the first course within the VMCE+ training bundle, covering the installation, configuration and management of the Veeam Data Platform.
Participants will be provided with training through Veeam University PRO, cohort sessions led by VMCE+ certified members of the vendor’s Women in Green employee resource group, and a structured pathway towards certification.
They will also gain access to a global peer network and become eligible to apply for technical roles at the organisation.
“While the tech industry has made progress, there is still more to do to ensure access and encourage the diversity of thought that fuels creativity and innovation,” said Emilee Tellez, field CTO at Veeam.
“We asked a simple question: how can we better support women in technology?
“For me, the answer was clear. Certifications, including those from Veeam, played a critical role in my own career and VMCE+ represents the kind of hands-on, in-demand expertise that helps people stand out and succeed.”
Dave Russell, SVP and head of strategy at Veeam, added: “As organisations accelerate AI adoption, the need for skilled talent who understand how to manage, protect and unlock data has never been more critical.
“By investing in skills, certification and community, we are not only strengthening the talent pipeline but also helping organisations build the foundation for trusted data and responsible AI.”
This announcement follows the launch of the programme last year, which saw participants complete VMCE certification training and develop technical skills in data resilience and IT operations.
Applications for the scheme are open until 19 June, with the next cohort scheduled to begin during the week commencing 3 August and conclude at the end of October.
