Viglen grabs Scottish schools deal

System builder to provide web filtering to 120 schools in Dumfries and Galloway

System builder Viglen has tied up a three-year deal to provide internet filtering technology to 120 Scottish schools.

The St Albans-based firm inked the installation and maintenance deal with Dumfries and Galloway Council earlier this month after beating three competitors in a tender process. Viglen has been tasked with providing web filtering technology to serve 23,000 users and about 7,000 PCs, laptops and netbooks.

Currently, each of Dumfries and Galloway's 120 schools have their own separate active filtering directory. Over the course of the contract, schools will move to a unified active directory.

The deal is worth £81,000. Factoring in VAT, the contract value should rise to nearer £100,000.
