Computacenter backs VDC take-off

IT services giant gets all its datacentre ducks in a row as it invests in VCE, Oracle Exadata and NetApp FlexPod solutions

IT services giant Computacenter claims its multi-vendor datacentre strategy will give it first-mover advantage in the cloud.

Computacenter emerged last year as one of the first UK VARs to acquire reseller rights for the Virtual Computing Environment's (VCE) Vblock packages, which feature VMware, Cisco and EMC technology.

The packages allow end users to build virtual datacentres (VDCs) and, in turn, deploy private clouds.

The company has also thrown its weight behind several similar offerings, including Oracle's Exadata product and NetApp's FlexPod package.

Neill Burton, datacentre solutions director at Computacenter, said: "I don't believe there is anyone else out there able to offer all three or capable of not just reselling, but integrating these platforms."

He added that end-user interest in VDC is growing and the decision to back several variants of the technology will stand the firm in good stead.

"These are not products that are flying off the shelves at the moment, but we are seeing a growing interest in them, which is exciting for us because this is where the market is going be," explained Burton.
