ConvergeOne scores Football League deal

Salford VAR rolls out Cisco kit for the founding fathers of league football

Mancunian VAR ConvergeOne is celebrating completing a networking and comms project with the Football League.

The Cisco Premier partner, which also works with manufacturers including NetApp and VMware, was tasked with installing the networking vendor's borderless network technology. ConvergeOne also implemented a converged communications platform.

Based in Preston, the Football League has 72 member clubs, including such teams as Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Leyton Orient (pictured). It oversees competitions including the npower Football League, Carling Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Football League IT manager Richard Slater runs the organisation's operations centre in Preston.

"Our requirement was for a modern network capable of supporting both data and voice applications," he said.

The implementation was built on Cisco 7950 and 2960 switches. The VAR claims the rollout will allow the League to reduce their comms expenditure.

Tony Beddows, client services director at ConvergeOne said: "The Cisco infrastructure suited the Football League's requirements for a scalable borderless network. The installation went smoothly with little impact on the League's day-to-day running of the business."
