VMware raids G-Cloud for public sector push

Virtualisation giant appoints former G-Cloud deputy director Andy Tait to head public sector work

VMware has poached a director tasked with rolling out the government's G-Cloud programme to oversee its public sector plans.

Former G-Cloud deputy director Andy Tait has been hired by the virtualisation giant to head up its public services strategy.

In the newly created role, Tait will be tasked with highlighting the role IT can play in achieving cost savings within public sector organisations.

Tait said investing in virtualisation and cloud offer public sector organisations great opportunities to cut costs.

"I look forward to applying my knowledge of the public sector to help organisations realise the full potential of cloud and virtualisation technologies in driving their services," said Tait.

"IT should be at the forefront of delivering the efficiencies and savings required by the government."

Mark Newton, regional director for the UK and Ireland at VMware, added: "With his experience in the public sector, Andy will play a major role in ensuring we continue to innovate and enhance our offerings to deliver the technologies and services that make a real difference to our customers."
