National Grid turns on to HP Services
Vendor's services arm bags seven-year deal with utility provider
HP Enterprise Services UK has tied up a seven-year services contract with the National Grid.
The vendor's services wing will provide a company-wide service management package covering a variety of manufacturers and services providers. HP claims it can give the National Grid – which operates across the UK and in the north-east of the US – a single port of call for any of the utility firm's tech issues.
In addition, the vendor giant will roll out its Universal Configuration Manager Database and Service Manager 7 software technologies. Some 30,000 National Grid staff will also be provided with HP Service Desk Services.
David Lister, chief information officer at the National Grid, said: "We are working with HP to establish a service management hub to manage our multi-supplier environment more effectively and to enable us to be more flexible and achieve our cost and service goals."
Mike Nefkens, HP's EMEA general manager of enterprise services, added: "Many CIOs are wrestling with the challenge of managing complex hybrid environments that include a combination of traditional as well as private and public cloud. The HP team brings deep service management expertise and tools with proven operational excellence from managing some of the world's most complex, multi-sourced environments."
