Drobo enlists global sales chief

Former LeftHand sales boss David Bangs joins data storage vendor

Data storage vendor Drobo has hired a new global sales chief but has yet to find a replacement for recently departed EMEA boss Paul Thackeray.

David Bangs joins Drobo in the new role of senior vice president of worldwide sales as the ambitious vendor looks to up the ante outside its native US.

Although Bangs will oversee EMEA in the short term, the vendor is hunting for a direct replacement for Thackeray (pictured), who left in March after just six months in the hotseat.

Bangs joins from HP where he led the HP StorageWorks sales organisation after joining through its 2008 acquisition of LeftHand. Drobo chief executive Tom Buiocchi claimed the new hire was a "proven leader".

"Drobo has enjoyed fantastic growth and we are looking to take it to the next level," said Buiocchi.

Bangs added: "Drobo is striking a chord with the underserved SMB market by providing storage products that marry technical sophistication with ease of use. I am excited to join a company at this stage in its growth and one that is primed for great things."
