Medium UK to restructure management in the wake of senior departures

Three staff have resigned from Hayes-based visual communications VAD Medium UK, including commercial director Paul O'Reilly.

O'Reilly, associate director of sales Peter Finn, and field sales manager Phil Waterhouse will all leave the distributor in coming weeks. The resignations are unrelated, according to Medium's marketing manager, Sarah Jones, and the company is using the two director-level departures as the opportunity for a management restructure.

"As a result of people leaving, we are restructuring to make sure that we have got the focus in the right areas," Jones said.

In the first of a number of potential management changes, technical services manager Terry French [pictured, left] has been appointed to the newly-created post of head of video communications, leading the sales and technical development of video communications offerings based on LifeSize product.

Digital signage will be another area of increased focus, according to a statement released by the distributor.

French is a 15-year veteran of the industry, having notched up roles at Matrix Display systems, Maidenhead Audio Visual, and Audicom Pendax before joining Medium in 2010.

Neither Finn's nor O'Reilly's positions may be directly replaced, with the distributor opting instead to redesign job descriptions to better match market conditions. "We will be focusing on emerging market opportunities," Jones said. "We have to look at our overall priorities."

O'Reilly had been with Medium for four or five years, she said, and had simply felt it time to move on. Previously, he was with Steljes, Jones said. He is expected to leave Medium next week and will be pursuing another role in the technology industry.

Finn -- who spent 12 years at Medium -- had spent a lot of time in the north of England, and this may affect how any role or roles needed to be structured, she suggested. He is believed to be leaving at the end of the month.

Phil Waterhouse is leaving to join Midwich, according to Jones. He is already on "gardening leave" and will probably formally depart, for another tech company, in June.

Ian Sempers, managing director and founder of Medium UK [pictured, right], said the firm grew 18 per cent last year.

"The restructure reflects the changing shape of the business and facilitates further development that will deliver growth to us and our reseller and vendor partners through 2011 and beyond," he said.

Darren Lewitt, divisional director at rival AV Midwich, said: "It isn't my place to comment on the internal affairs of competitors but I do wish Peter and Paul, who I have known for many years all the best."
