Avnet gets a taste for France

Firm acquires VAD Amosdec SAS for an undisclosed sum as it looks to gain more traction in the virtualisation space

Distribution giant Avnet Technology Solutions has opened its acquisition purse once more, entering into a definitive agreement to acquire French VAD Amosdec SAS.

VMware specialist Amosdec has headquarters in Paris, and offers technical consultancy and training, pre-sales support and installation services to its 500-plus VAR partners.

Avnet Technology Solutions' EMEA arm has spent the past year completing its mammoth Bell Micro acquisition, but EMEA president Graeme Watt (pictured) said it proved the firm was "back on the acquisition trail".

“This is a clear demonstration that Avnet Technology Solutions EMEA is driving growth not only organically, but through a continued acquisition strategy. It is the first acquisition we have done since Bell and shows we are back on the acquisition trail,” he said.

“The culture was strong in the company and the conversations we have had with management have been very positive and forward-looking. France is the third largest IT market in EMEA and it is important for us to be in these markets,” he added.

Watt also hinted that Avnet was keen to get deeper into the virtualisation space.

He was unable to comment further on the integration of the two firms and the management structure plans until the deal has been completed – which is expected to be in July.
