Ubiqz signs Canon deal on network cameras
Specialist security distributor to push Canon cameras and video recording software
Midwich security subsidiary Ubiqz has sealed a deal to resell Canon network camera security products and other offerings targeting mid- to high-end market segments across the UK and Ireland.
Anand Subbiah, general manager at Ubiqz, said the future of IP security lies with intelligent cameras and HD imaging. Products would be supported by a team of IT and security specialists.
"Canon's technology will keep us at the cutting edge," he said. "[For us] there will be a serious focus on the transition to IP systems and, in the immediate term, a focus on how analogue and IP systems can be integrated to work together."
Subbiah added that in his opinion camera technology has evolved and opened up a whole new world of surveillance.
"Organisations can now look to do something above and beyond monitoring. For example, content analytic functions can detect camera tampering or identify if designated objects are moved or removed from a scene, whilst sound detection also allows the camera to be used in environments where it is important to detect changes in volume," he said.
Ubiqz will support Canon product sales with design and installation, as well as ongoing customer support, according to the vendor, with government, retail and transport sectors expected to demonstrate demand.
Floris Oranje, business development manager for video communications cameras at Canon Europe, said the vendor is a recent entrant into the video surveillance sector.
"The partnership with Ubiqz is part of our strategy to develop our presence with a group of selected partners that will focus on bringing Canon to the right target markets," Oranje said.
"Ubiqz's expertise in design and installation and specialism in IP video surveillance fits perfectly with our versatile line-up."
Canon has a 70-year history in optics development, complemented by hardware and analytics, he added.
