English completes task at Viglen

Apprentice winner takes up a new challenge with employer Lord Sugar

The Apprentice 2010 winner Stella English has left system builder Viglen to take up a new position with boss Alan Sugar.

From this week, English will be working at set-top box maker YouView, assisting Lord Sugar in his role as chairman of the company.

It is unclear at this stage what her exact role will be within the company, but CRN understands more will be revealed at a later date.

English was taken on at Viglen last December in the role of project manager after winning the popular BBC programme.

Some media reports claimed the switch was because English felt "unchallenged" at Viglen.

A representative for Lord Sugar said: “Having won The Apprentice at the end of 2010, Stella worked on a project to implement new systems into Viglen’s Academy business.

“This work has now ended and, impressed with her work, Lord Sugar has drafted Stella in to assist him in his task as chairman of YouView. Stella remains an employee of Lord Sugar and there will be no additional cost to YouView.”

In a statement Lord Sugar said: “Stella has contributed a lot in her time at Viglen, particularly on the Academy side. There are exciting times ahead for YouView and I felt she was perfect to assist me on this project.”
