NTT Europe gets Hooked in the cloud

IBM Business Partner grabs five-year deal to provide gas supplier South Hook with cloud services

IBM partner NTT Europe has bagged a five-year agreement to supply cloud computing services to South Hook’s operations in London and Milford Haven, Wales.

Under the terms of the deal, South Hook, which is the operator of the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) re-gasification terminal in Europe, has bought a customised solution that moves its operations into a private cloud, guaranteeing security, flexibility and less energy consumption.

Mohammed Al Naimi, director and general manager at South Hook, said: “Reliability, resilience and 24/7 support are key to ensuring the reliability of our business. This new solution from IBM and NTT Europe will help us grow and strengthen our international leadership, and provide considerable cost, time and energy savings for South Hook and our customers.

“We feel the introduction of cloud computing is a key transformational step for us on our journey.”

Damian Skendrovic, vice president of managed services at NTT Europe, said: “We have been working with IBM for a number of years. Our blueprint ‘Secured IT as a Service’, hosted IPT and WAN services underpin IBM’s industry-specific cloud delivery model for South Hook LNG and we are delighted to continue to partner with IBM to provide outsourced ICT services.”

Jacqui Davey, vice president of the IBM Business Partner Organisation and member of the IBM UKI Cloud Governance Board, said: “South Hook is known for being at the forefront of the international liquefied natural gas industry.

“Along with being able to take advantage of IBM’s experience in the energy industry, our cloud computing services, delivered with IBM Business Partner NTT Europe, will enable them to flexibly allocate resources when and where they need it, giving South Hook the upper hand in the fast-changing energy market.”
