Quantum splashes the cash on Pancetera

Storage vendor stumps up $12m for virtual data protection software vendor

Storage vendor Quantum has acquired virtual data management player Pancetera Software for $12m (£7.3m).

Privately held Pancetera specialises in disaster recovery and backup products used to protect data stored in virtual environments.

In a statement, Quantum said it plans to use the technology and expertise acquired through the deal to launch a line of storage products designed for use in virtualisation projects.

It also confirmed that "nearly all" of Pancetera's employees have joined Quantum, including its chief executive Henrik Rosendahl, and company co-founders Mitch Haile and Greg Wade.

Jon Gacek, chief executive of Quantum, said: "The Pancetera acquisition reflects Quantum's continued focus on expanding our storage systems portfolio to provide greater value to existing customers and also reach a broader customer base.

"We are also excited about the addition of a very talented Pancetera team, which will help us accelerate our development of new and unique solutions."
