Corero rebrands Top Layer
Buy-and-build network security outfit not done on acquisition spree yet
Acquisitive network security vendor Corero is eyeing up its next acquisition after completing the integration of recent purchase Top Layer.
Intrusion prevention specialist Top Layer has been rebranded under the Corero Network Security banner while the vendor has also launched a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) product built on its functionality.
Four channel stalwarts, including Datatec founder Jens Montanana, took a majority stake in AIM-listed Corero last year and vowed to make a series of network security acquisitions.
Chief operating officer Andrew Miller said: "We are currently looking at a couple of opportunities but whether we do something in the second half of 2011 is still up for debate."
Miller said Corero's new DDoS Defence product would broaden the range of technology that partners can take to its target end-user base of finance, healthcare and online gaming firms.
"Our solution is unique in that it detects both network-layer and application-layer DDoS attacks," Miller said.
He claimed that DDoS attacks were increasingly prevalent, with motives varying from reputational damage to extortion. "It is an issue that is resonating with end users and the channel," he added.
The vendor recently took on distributor VADition to aid its hunt for partners in the UK.
