NetApp launches cloud platform

OnCommand offers simplified storage via NetApp's cloud partner scheme

NetApp has cemented its cloud presence with the launch of OnCommand, its virtualised storage management offering.

OnCommand provides two main benefits to channel partners, according to NetApp: it simplifies cloud storage for end-user customers through a range of services, and is able to replicate the offering in several places.

Using elements developed in partnership with Cisco, Microsoft, VMware and Citrix, NetApp is pushing the offering through its Cloud Management Partner Programme and looking to recruit additional channel partners, including systems integrators and cloud services players.

Laurence James, products, alliances and solutions marketing manager UK at NetApp (pictured), said: "The installation of storage cannot take days to be applied in today's competitive landscape; it has to be minutes. We present our storage in a tier-based platform, and for application owners this automated job works with ease."

James added: "The Management Partner Programme has been in effect for a while now; partners can enter after gaining certification and training, and see themselves being integrated with flexibility. In the past we have had a lot of interest at Cisco and VMware events, which gives me confidence for the product's future."

Paul Sweeney, managing director of ANS Group, said: "We have been working with NetApp for two years and see that the growth in this vendor is phenomenal. Many cloud builders are using OnCommand for the scalability, flexibility and snapshotting."

ANS Group is currently working with two confirmed clients and has had a lot of interest since the product was announced for release more than two months ago.

"As a reseller moving from the private to public sector, it reduces cost and [increases] savings. It also provides an opportunity to not get confused with technicality - it creates simplicity for the customer," added Sweeney.
