VAR currently known as PC-Ware is changing its name to Comparex next month as it eyes growth

VAR PC-Ware is changing its name to Comparex next month as it brings together its software, hardware and services operations and pushes for growth.

The German-owned firm, which has 75 offices in 28 countries across the world and employs 1,700 staff, is also looking to double its turnover in the next three years to €2bn (£1.77bn).

During its most recent financial year, which ended in March, turnover was €970m.

Mike Chambers (pictured), managing director of PC-Ware UK, explained the reasons behind the name change. “For the past three years, PC-Ware and Comparex have worked together in tandem,” he said.

“PC-Ware specialises in software licensing, and Comparex is strong in the datacentre, storage and hardware markets. Bringing the brands together is a logical step and enables international expansion. PC-Ware has been in business for 20 years and Comparex for 30, so the oldest name won.”

The UK name will change on 8 July, and some territories have already taken the plunge. Chambers said the new name might take a while for UK customers to get used to, but in EMEA the Comparex brand is already widely recognised.

He added that the move will also allow it to lay out its services delivery under three separate strands, licensing being the first. The services strand will include software asset management and application and system monitoring. Meanwhile, consulting operations will cover datacentre building and management, and hardware and storage installation and delivery.

At present PC-Ware works with five core vendors: Microsoft, Adobe, Citrix, VMware and Symantec. Chambers said the firm is keen to build on its accreditations, but also widen its services, creating more vendor partnerships. The firm will also recruit in the UK, Chambers said.
