Ex-SpiriTel team blasts off with new VAR
Alastair Mills and his crew unveil new buy-and-build outfit eight months after SpiriTel sale
The management team behind comms reseller SpiriTel has resurfaced with a new outfit forged from the merger of three converged service providers.
The new group – as yet unnamed – is headed up by ex-SpiriTel chief executive Alastair Mills and is funded by former SpiriTel backer Penta Capital.
The 60-strong outfit has also retained SpiriTel's core management team, including chief financial officer Ronnie Smith, commercial director Jonny Shanmuganathan and company secretary Andrew Booth.
Following a £60m fundraising exercise led by Penta, the group has snapped up a trio of converged services providers: datacentre outfit UKSolutions, MPLS provider NetworkFlow and voice services company Protel.
Mills and his team built up SpiriTel through a rapid-fire series of acquisitions, before selling the firm to rival Daisy last November for £27.5m.
The new outfit will focus on three managed data services elements: core, connectivity and overlay services.
Mills said: "SpiriTel was one of the fastest-growing voice companies in the UK before its acquisition last year. This was testament to a hugely talented and driven management team that delivered more than 20 per cent organic growth, through a recession, in a declining market.
"I am delighted to be working with the team again following our recent £60m fundraise."
