Fujitsu bags £19m extension for NI police deal
Services firm retained by Northern Irish cops for a further three years
Services giant Fujitsu has seen its £34m IT contract with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) extended by a further three years.
PSNI signed Fujitsu in 2008 to oversee a wide-scale overhaul of its IT infrastructure, including the rollout of new computers, telephony and LAN networks, as well as service desk capabilities.
The contract has now been extended by three years to 2016, which adds a further £19m to the total value of the deal.
Anthony Pipe, acting managing director for the government division at Fujitsu UK and Ireland, said: "The success of the contract is evidenced in its direct impact on both office-based staff and frontline officers in Northern Ireland, who now benefit from higher-quality support for IT services across many aspects of their work."
John Tully, head of information and communication services at PSNI, added: "Fujitsu's extensive management of our services has surpassed our expectations [and] has delivered tangible benefits to our frontline officers."
