Microsoft cloud boss Muglia joins Juniper

Former head of Microsoft server tools and business division to oversee networking vendor's new software unit

Former head of Microsoft's cloud computing strategy Bob Muglia has been tasked with overseeing the work of Juniper Networks' new software solutions division.

In his new role as executive vice president of the software solutions division at Juniper, Muglia (pictured) will be reporting directly to the networking vendor's chief executive, Kevin Johnson.

Muglia left Microsoft in January after 23 years with the firm. He held various management positions in the software giant's online services, office and mobile devices divisions.

Prior to leaving the firm, he was the president of Microsoft's server and tools business, and oversaw the execution of the firm's cloud computing strategy.

Johnson said Muglia will play a key role in helping the firm push ahead with its systems and software strategy.

"We are excited to have a leader of Bob's calibre coming on board to lead Juniper's software initiatives, and I am confident that his vision, management savvy and technical expertise will bring tremendous value to our organisation," he said.

Muglia added: "I have long respected Juniper for its distinctive approach to solving the toughest networking problems and for its networking vision that is simple, open and programmable."
