Channel firms grab a place on new software applications procurement framework worth up to £1bn

A host of channel firms are now celebrating after they bagged a place on a new local government software procurement framework that could be worth up to £1bn.

A total of 39 suppliers made it onto the Local Government Software Application Solutions Framework, which was awarded by the Government Procurement Service (GPS) yesterday.

Channelweb understands that the framework is worth between £400m and £1bn, and will run for the next two years.

The framework was set up by the GPS, formerly known as Buying Solutions, to provide local government organisations with a means of procuring a range of sector-specific software applications.

It is divided into nine lots, with channel players Northgate Public Services, Lagan Technologies and Civica each bagging seven places.

This tally was only exceeded by Microsoft Sharepoint provider Bramble.cc, which won a place on eight out of the nine lots.

Service provider Capita Group secured places on six lots, while systems integrator Asidua and London-based VAR CACI were among a trio of suppliers to garner four.

In a statement, Peter Rottier, director of innovations and partnerships at Northgate Public Services, said he was delighted to have made it onto the framework.

"This will allow local authorities and other local government bodies to gain access to our full range of solutions and services that will help them deliver better for less," he said. "We look forward to using the framework to develop partnerships focused on meeting the challenges that the public sector currently faces."

Managed service provider Idox was accepted onto five of the framework lots. Andrew Riley, managing director of the firm's public sector software division, said the new agreement will lead to lower procurement costs for buyers.

"The framework means reduced tendering costs for buyers as well as suppliers as it obviates the need for repeated and costly EU procurement tendering," said Riley in a statement.

"We believe [it] will genuinely transform the way the public sector commissions software solutions."
