Viglen chief joins Rat Race
Bordan Tkachuk is set to take part in the Cannonball Run Rat Race across the US
Petrolheads from across the globe will descend on Manhattan next month for the Cannonball Run Rat Race, with Viglen chief executive Bordan Tkachuk right in the centre of the pack.
As well as getting the chance to drive the car of their dreams across famous US highways and byways, competitors this year will also compete for a £25,000 prize, hidden in a briefcase in a secret location.
The event mirrors the same starting point as the original Cannonball Run in 1971.
Tkachuk told CRN: "I'm really excited about this event and will be driving a Mustang – what else is there? I'm hyped up and raring to be part of the spirit of the original Cannonball Run. It's something special and I am really relishing the chance to be a 'Cannonball Rat'."
In true sportsman style, Tkachuk said taking part was the most important thing.
"It's not all about winning, of course. However, coming second is the first of the losers, and failure, gentlemen, is not an option," he said.
Drivers will have to crack codes given out at each checkpoint to obtain six numbers, which form the combination to the lock on the cash-filled briefcase.
Tim Porter, Cannonball Run Rat Race boss, said: "Our new event is more in line with modern legalities, such as not speeding – or should I say not getting caught speeding.
"In reality though, it's also about brains over driving brawn. And it's great to have Bordan join us for what will be a momentous, full-on experience for all involved."
