WLAN market set for growth spurt

WLAN revenue set to grow 49 per cent between 2010 and 2015, says Dell'Oro

The wireless LAN (WLAN) market is set to expand by almost a half by 2015, according to market watcher Dell'Oro Group.

After suffering a blip during the recession, WLAN revenue recovered in 2010 and is set to swell a further 49 per cent to $8bn (£4.9bn) by 2015.

The enterprise segment will generate the bulk of the growth, almost entirely closing the gap on its larger SOHO counterpart by 2015. By then enterprise revenue will reach $3.9bn, compared with $4bn for SOHO, Dell'Oro said.

Chris DePuy, wireless LAN research analyst at Dell'Oro, said: "The wireless LAN market continues its rapid expansion, as it tries to keep pace with the large growth in the number of Wi-Fi-enabled devices.

"802.11n technology has helped to propel this market, and is continuing to evolve, providing for higher bandwidth connections and the ability to seamlessly roam from the cellular network to WLAN."
