HP: UK TouchPad price info "imminent"

HP set to break silence as twitter rumours circulate

HP has slashed the UK price of its doomed TouchPad tablet device (pictured) to as little as £89, according to widespread reports on Twitter.

Although HP is remaining tight-lipped officially, various sources took to the social media platform this afternoon to out the vendor's UK strategy.

According to numerous sources, the 16GB version will be sold for £89, with the 32GB available for £115.

An HP representative said that a statement from HP on the matter is "imminent", but stressed nothing has yet been communicated officially.

Alex Tatham, sales director at HP distributor Westcoast, said the channel was poised to act.

"We are expecting something from HP," he said. "A few resellers have been in touch asking if they can send the things back to us and get refunds. HP needs to act quickly to avoid any problems arising."

Today's twitter storm follows reports over the weekend revealing US TouchPad prices have been slashed to as low as $99.

HP said it is fully committed to the ongoing support and service of customers who purchased webOS devices.

"We expect that HP TouchPad owners can look forward to an over-the-air update that will enhance the platform and add functionality and a growing applications catalogue," it stated.

"HP plans to continue to investigate the best ways to leverage webOS software and grow the applications base."
