Datacastle opens drawbridge to UK channel

End-point protection newbie on quest for reseller allies

End-point protection start-up Datacastle has kicked off a partner recruitment drive 12 months after touching down in the UK.

Founded in 2007 by a breakaway band of ex-Microsoft executives, Seattle-based Datacastle's solution combines data backup and encryption functionality on a single agent.

It also features remote deletion and port-blocking capabilities.

Phil Evans, vice president of business development for EMEA, said the vendor is looking to bolster both its OEM and reseller channels.

Datacastle's solution is currently white-labelled by i365 and distributor Computerlinks. Managed services partners include education specialist Redstor.

"The market as we see it is relatively greenfield as only 23 per cent of end-point devices are encrypted," Evans said.

Resellers that already offer server backup solutions are a target, particularly those with expertise in verticals such as legal, financial, healthcare and education, where data is regarded as most sensitive, he added.

Evans admitted the recent decline in PC sales has prompted the firm to introduce capability for tablet operating systems, which should be online by early 2012.

"We are looking to increase the discount levels on lead registration and create a more formal MDF programme," he added.

Dave Ellis, director of new technologies and services at Computerlinks, said about 20 resellers use the Datacastle service it white labels under its Alvea managed services brand.

"No-one really knows Datacastle but the technology is fantastic," he said. "It sits across many different markets, with the sweet spot being highly regulated markets where business continuity and data security are key."
