Apotheker: HP's PC business has years of life ahead

Chief executive of the vendor talks up confidence in PC part of the business

HP’s head honcho Léo Apotheker has said he is confident that the vendor’s PSG division will continue to do well, “if not better”, after last week’s spin-off news.

Speaking to the Financial Times, Apotheker (pictured) said: “It is bad news for our competitors, but HP’s PC business will be in existence for many years to come.”

Apotheker was speaking following a week that has shaken the IT industry to the core after his shock announcement that HP was considering a spin-off or sale of its PC division and canned future production of its TouchPad tablet computer.

Earlier in the week, Todd Bradley, executive vice president of PSG, stressed the vendor’s commitment to its channel partners and also to continued product development.

Speculation is mounting as to what will happen with PSG, but the vendor has said any decision could take 12 to 18 months to come to fruition.
