NEC displays channel to fly further into aviation
Vendor reinforces vertical leadership team across EMEA
NEC Display Solutions is strengthening its drive into the aviation industry, appointing UK corporate sales head Richard Wilks as business development manager for regional sales to the sector.
According to a statement from the vendor, the move is in response to rising demand across EMEA for displays in the aviation market.
"Air traffic will double by 2030 and competition will increase. Pressure is being put on airports worldwide to attract an ever more demanding class of traveller. Innovative display technology can help to make terminals more efficient and assist in driving additional retail revenue streams," according to NEC.
Richard Wilks, EMEA aviation business development manager at NEC (pictured, left), was quoted as saying: "Displays designed for use in an airport have a variety of rigorous requirements due to their 24-hour operation and multi-purpose use."
Airports use displays to guide and inform passengers and other airport visitors. Baggage control, flight information, passenger monitoring, advertisers and control rooms have all used airport display screens.
NEC claims to have the "widest portfolio" of display technologies, products and services for airports, and drives all its sales through the channel. About 25,000 NEC displays have been installed in airports around the world in the past decade.
Wilks has 22 years of experience in the European graphics and monitor display business, at firms such as IBM, Artist Graphics and MicroTouch 3M. More recently at NEC, he specialised in market development for media and healthcare while running the corporate sales team, NEC said.
