CRN Golf Day 2011 swings by
Despite the typical British weather, a good day was had by all
Sheet rain, gusty wind, grey skies – it must be time for the CRN golf day.
But hardy channel golfers did not allow the bad weather to drive a wedge between them as they gathered at the exclusive Foxhills Golf Club in Surrey to take part in the annual extravaganza.
With 21 teams taking part in the event this year – supported by headline sponsor Dell, and event sponsor Comms-care – timing was everything with a shotgun start after bacon butties at the clubhouse kicked off the day.
As one foolhardy golfer said: “It rained for the first hour or so and it was really heavy, blustery rain. In fact it was so strong it turned one of my team’s brand-new golfing umbrella inside out before we had even started.”
But the rain cleared away after the first few holes, leaving our players testing their skills to the max as the wind refused to die down completely. That, along with an incredibly tight Longcross course, kept drivers firmly in their bags for most.
The eventual winner was Interactive Ideas with a scarcely believable team stableford score of 99, closely followed by Raritan and Club R’s. Walli Datoo, senior product manager at Interactive Ideas was delighted with the win.
“The weather was not great with heavy downpours, but the day was well organised and it soon cleared up. We had a great day of golf and the opportunities for networking were excellent,” he said.
Teams dug into a slap-up BBQ served on the terrace (although golfers chose to eat inside!) and one or two drinks to restore the circulation after the bracing weather.
Alan Loader, publisher of CRN, said: ““It was a great day. My golf was slightly below par, but I blame the weather for that! Team CRN finished a credible fourth from bottom with 71 points.
“I’d like to thank our sponsors Dell and Comms-care and congratulations to the winning team. I am looking forward to next year already.”
Pictures from the day will be appearing on ChannelWeb soon.
